Self Confidence, let me explain.
When people binge, purge, overeat, restrict , they don’t have to be present, awake and aware.
When someone needs to stand up to their boss and they are scared of a confrontation; or they have a boyfriend who is treating them badly and they don’t think they have the right to speak up-then instead of dealing with the situation, then they can worry about food, their body and their weight. They can just zone out and not do anything about the issue.
If they think they have to make an A in school or they are not good enough, they get stressed out and don’t know how to give themselves a break. They can binge, purge. zone out and not deal with it.
If they think they don’t have the right to say “No” and they have a feeling that something is really wrong with their boyfriend, they can eat a lot, feel tired, zone out and not have to deal with it.
So— Tip #1. Teach the girls in your life to have the confidence to say no, ask for what they want and set boundaries.
If you need help with HOW to do this, join us at IEDI. We will have classes with detailed information on how to teach these skills. We will walk you through the process and provide ways to change your approach to best help your daughter, your grand-daughter, your niece..
