About Therapy
Sue Bates, M. Ed., LMHC
As a psychotherapist and eating disorder specialist, I have been helping women overcome eating disorders for 37 years. What concerns me the most is that they keep coming! In my private practice and through the International Eating Disorders Institute, I am committed to helping women claim their power and passion so they don’t NEED an ED.
My approach is practical, positive, and focused on solutions and strength. Using my extensive experience along with the latest research, I help women develop skills and strategies to cope with their lives and emotions so they don’t NEED an eating disorder for the comfort and control they seek. My clients say I am different from other therapists in that I don’t just sit and listen. From my perspective, we can’t afford to just sit on this issue any longer. We need to get real, and get to work talking to each other. We need to understand WHY and what to do to move forward.
If you are wanting ongoing therapy, just e-mail me. We will set up a time to talk for about 15 minutes and see if we are a good match. for more info on insurance, fees, etc. click here.
Hope to talk to you soon,
Sue Bates
I am a licensed mental health therapist in the State of Washington with a private practice dedicated to helping individuals and families with eating disorder and relationship issues. As a licensed supervisor for the state, I provide supervision for other therapists seeking advanced training on eating disorder treatment. I have also taught classes on eating disorders to Master’s level counseling students at Antioch University and worked on the inpatient eating disorder unit at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. I have a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from North Texas State University.
“Once I started working with Sue, my attitudes about life, myself, and my position in this world began to change immediately… she has shown a level of compassion that I had yet experienced with my previous therapists. She has helped me become very comfortable with who I am as a person, which has ultimately provided me with a self confidence I could never have imagined. Had I never had the opportunity to work with Sue, I truly believe I would not even be close to where I’m at in my life, which is happy, joyous and free.”
